My standard hair care routine is pretty simple. For all of you people who wash your hair everyday, this is definitely not the hair routine for you unless you want to learn how to regulate the oils in your hair so that you don't have to wash it every single day.  Now to start out, I wash my hair twice a week ON A BAD WEEK. usually once, depending on what I plan to do with it. Gross..? Maybe... but my hair honestly doesn't need it. As time goes on, my hair gets drier with each day of not washing it. Another amazing thing about it, is that I wear my hair down every day, until I go to work (I have to wear it up) and it still manages to stay non-oily.

On to the actual products... Before I shower I HAVE to comb out my hair or there is no way I will be able to comb through it when it is wet, or at all for that matter. I wash my hair with the Macadamia Natural Oil Rejuvenating Shampoo. It's a bit pricy -- $25 or something for one bottle or something like that... I got a deal at target that was buy one get on free and I honestly don't go through shampoos quickly what-so-ever so I can justify this purchase. I have had this since June I believe and I am barely one-third of the way through (of my first bottle) and then I get out of the shower and use the Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque. I leave this on for 5-10 minutes and then get back in the shower and rinse it out. Now this stuff is a DREAM. My hair feels awesome after I use this. It is so thick and moisturizing which is exactly what my hair needs. This I have gone through a bit quicker, I am almost finished with my first 8.5oz container. I can probably get maybe another month out of it. While I am rising the masque out, I comb through my hair with a wide tooth comb. Once I'm out of the shower I squeeze the excess water in my hair (my hair retains water like crazy) and then I add Coconut Milk by Organix and a tiny bit of Moroccan Argan Oil by Organix. I flip my hair upside-down, shake it out, and let my hair find its natural part and then I let it air dry.

Every morning I wake up and take vitamin E, B-complex, and A -- all of which are good for your hair. Making it thicker, shinier, and healthier. Then I run a bit of Moroccan Argan Oil through my hair and depending on how my hair dried I will lightly run a curling iron through the front to enhance the waves.

Nothing too special about this routine, other than before my perm mishap, my hair was in the best condition I have ever had it in. Now, I'm hoping continuing this, or maybe switching up my shampoo to a more moisturizing shampoo will do the trick? In the meantime, I am also doing a month-by-month hair growth monitor to see if my hair is growing faster, slower, or the same at the 1/2 inch per month. Fingers crossed it's more.

Well, If ya'll saw my last post, you know i have naturally wavy red hair. If you didn't read that one, well now you know. For about a month, I have been doing extreme research on at home perms because I wanted to perm my hair. I can hear everyone yelling at me now as you read this, "OMG, you should never perm at home!" The amount of research I did on products, rolling my hair, how to care for it, and everything else did not at all prepare me for the catastrophe that occurred Now adding on to a little of my hair background, my hair is extremely hard to change because red hair's ph levels make it harder to take products. Don't believe me? For my blonde hair (also a problem caused by my attempt to lighten my hair and ending with orange and blonde hair) It took 3 hours, on top of the hour i did to lighten my hair, for the stylist to correct my mistake and make my hair that lovely shade of blonde down there. Even after she did it she was amazed that my hair was practically not damaged a bit by all bleach in my hair.
On to the perm process... I bought all the correct items and had everything planned out. I used 5/8th of an inch rods because I knew I wanted my curls bigger rather than super tight -- just enhance the ones I already had you know? What I didn't know was how hard it was going to be to wrap my hair. For those of you who don't know, you must place paper sheets on the ends of the hair so that the ends do not become frazzled or more broken. Then you wrap the hair around the rod. Your hair must be split into 9 sections. Rolling my hair was the hardest but after I got the hang of it, easy peasy right? WRONG. Now I had even watched a lecture at a salon school, teaching how to perm on a doll head. I did all the steps and when  unwrapped and rinsed my hair I was pumped. It was curly and I was excited to see what it would look like. Needless to say, by the time it air dried, my hair was a dry, damaged mess. The perm solution stripped off the dye that was hiding my blonde hair, so half of my hair is my natural color and the other half is an orangish blondish tint. Thank god the ombre look is-- there is no way I am adding any more chemicals to this mess. My hair is now a fuzzy, lioness mess meaning the next month is going to be full of biotin and deep conditioning masks.
On to the pictures of my very angry hair...

Picture 1 is obviously what  I used. 2 is while the solution was on my hair. 3. was after my hair dried how much hair fell out of my head! AWFUL! and The final is after I immediately washed out the perm solution, deep conditioned it, and let it air dry. My hair is a complete mess! I had no idea what to do so I searched for natural remedies and this is what I have come up with...

I read a lot of places that vitamin A, B-complex, and E will help your hair grow, repair it, and keep it in good condition. (even if it doesn't I highly doubt I'm getting enough of these vitamins on a daily basis anyways so it can't hurt to try) On top of that I have coconut oil and Moroccan oil to put in my hair as well.

Once I felt like (only a week) that wasn't working fast enough for me, I had to get the dead ends cut off... which unfortunately was way too much but had to be done in order to get my hair back into good condition so here is my hair now.

Obviously not super short, however my hair is my security blanket so I'm not in the process of growing it back nice and healthy.  Note to self: Never self-perm again... hair fail ): XO - Stacey

My Hair journey thus far...

My first blog post ever starts now. I figure you may want to know a bit about me first. My name is Stacey, I live in small town Indiana. I am your typical fashion student who just wants to get out of her small town and move on to more exciting things. With one year left of college, and hopefully a waitress, A blog seems like a good plan to get my ideas out there and hear what others (if any listening) think.
As you see by the name,  Hairtravesty -- this blog is going to mostly contain all things hair. This will show you all the good times, the bad times, and all the in between of things I do to my hair that may help others. So here is a little journey of my hair. I am a naturally wavy redheaded girl. I hated my hair color and texture for a very long time and 3 years ago I began to try new things. I have had my hair every color possible in the book. And found that my natural color might be my favorite, and now I need to get my hair into tip-top shape because I have damaged it so much throughout the years.

So this has been my hair over the past few years, minus some pictures of teal hair, brown hair, the transitional stages of red to blonde, and a few more. But for the most part, this is my hair journey. The last picture is what my hair right now for the most part looks like. I absolutely never straighten my hair much anymore, and usually curl just a few pieces that seem limp. I am trying to get my hair to be very long, and very healthy because I do not want to end up with fried hair from the days of constantly straightening it since I was in 8th grade. I plan to show different hair tutorials, any hair catastrophes, what products I'm using and more. Feel free to ask questions and give suggestions!
